Christian charity CARE’s new resource to help churches in their work to support internet pornography users is already generating huge interest despite not being on sale yet.

The social policy charity’s newest publication, Living Free, is already ranked second on the Google search engine for searches using key terms ‘living’ and ‘free’.

CARE added that it had sold out of copies of the book available for sale at its pre-launch event at The Mandate men’s Christian conference in Belfast last Saturday.

Living Free, which is published on Friday, follows on from the Searching for Intimacy initiatives pioneered by CARE to support people trapped in the use of internet pornography, as well as their families.

The book sets out how to identify and acknowledge the problem, how to find or be a mentor, and how to set up a support group. It also gives advice on how to protect the family or help a spouse overcome their use of internet pornography.

In his introduction to the book, CARE chairman Lyndon Bowring writes, “It is my heartfelt prayer that this handbook will encourage and equip church leaders, counsellors and mentors to deal compassionately with those who struggle, and result in many thousands of people living free from the snare of pornography.”

CARE’s Kate Bertaut said the charity was expecting high sales of the book.

The interest it has stirred up already “highlights the problem and that the need to address this delicate subject is there”, she said.

The book has been endorsed by popular speaker and author Eric Delve, who described it as “unique, valuable, and practical”.

Care for the Family founder and director Rob Parsons, meanwhile, said the book was “a wonderful contribution in a vital area”.
